CAUSES OF HAIR LOSS
It’s normal to loose 60 to 80 hairs per day. If you pull your fingers through your hair, you come out with a handful; you have a hair loss problem. Just as you would if you were to see a lot of hair in the tub after washing your hair, such as massive hair loss is not natural, even if your father is bald.
There are different reasons can cause excessive hair loss.
- Hormonal problems.
- Medication.
- Stress
- Traction alopecia (improper care)
- Androgenic alopecia (hereditary pattern baldness)
- Alopecia areata
- Quimoterapy
- Psoriasis
Some of reasons above can be treated depending on your type of hair loss. Before start any treatment or procedure, is very important to understand the cause of your hair loss.
In men, some testosterone is converted to its derivative dehydrotestosterone (DHT). It has been shown that DHT rather than testosterone is linked to male pattern baldness. Furthermore, inhibiting DHT production was shown to prevent baldness and stimulate new hair growth.
A very high percent of hair loss in men and women is caused by excessive oil. This oil is called sebum. The sebum clogs the pores of the scalp and stifles follicle growth. This procedure make impossible for new hair to grow.
This loss is manifested in various ways, most commonly as a receding hairline. Hereditary male pattern baldness (MPB) or androgenic alopecia is a condition afflicting approximately half of the male population by the age of 50, and is the cause overall thinning most often experienced by women.
If the scalp is not cleaned properly, this oil becomes wax, clogging the pores. When hair is shed, it’s successor cannot come out. It becomes weak and literally goes to sleep under the scalp. The few hairs that manage to push through that waxy barrier are so puny that they are ready to fall out as soon as they break through. Such are the circumstances leading to MPB.
Another factor is the blood circulation. As any other organ, hair follicles depend on the blood supply. Poor blood supply may cause atrophy and promote hair loss, and conversely, increased blood supply may accelerate regrowth. In fact, decreased microcirculation is one of the mechanisms by which DHT and excess sebum cause baldness / hair loss. Both anti-DHT treatment and sebum buildup prevention improve scalp microcirculation. Additional measures to improve scalp microcirculation may be useful in resistant cases.
